About Farrah Liu, M.D.
Farrah Liu, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at AVÑо¿Ëù and an Attending Surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Dr. Liu specializes in microsurgery and complex reconstruction following cancer surgery, trauma, and other major surgical procedures. Her practice includes breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, and reconstruction of oncologic defects throughout the body. She offers implant-based and autologous breast reconstruction, including microvascular free-flap surgery, and works closely with multidisciplinary cancer teams to develop an individualized reconstructive plan for each patient.
Dr. Liu also performs complex reconstruction of defects involving the scalp, face, oral cavity, jaw, neck, trunk, and extremities. She uses advanced microsurgical techniques to reconstruct soft tissue, muscle, bone, and other specialized structures following cancer treatment, trauma, or complicated surgery.
A particular focus of Dr. Liu’s practice is the surgical treatment and prevention of lymphedema. She offers lymphovenous bypass (LVB), vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT), and immediate lymphatic reconstruction (ILR), as well as microsurgical treatment of head and neck lymphedema. She uses advanced lymphatic imaging and microsurgical techniques to select the treatment best suited to each patient’s condition and goals.
Dr. Liu also offers cosmetic procedures for the face, breasts, and body. These include nonsurgical facial rejuvenation with Botox and dermal fillers, as well as blepharoplasty, facelift and neck lift, breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, abdominoplasty, and liposuction. Her aesthetic approach emphasizes individualized treatment planning and natural, balanced results.
Dr. Liu’s goal is to help each patient restore function, appearance, confidence, and quality of life. Her approach combines technical precision with compassionate, patient-centered care throughout the reconstructive or aesthetic journey.

Dr. Liu began her medical education in the accelerated seven-year combined BS/MD program between The College of New Jersey and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She subsequently completed a six-year plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at Stanford University, followed by advanced fellowship training in microsurgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Her clinical expertise includes breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, complex oncologic reconstruction, microsurgery, and lymphedema surgery. She performs implant-based and autologous breast reconstruction, microvascular free-tissue transfer, and reconstruction of complex defects involving the head and neck, trunk, and extremities. Her research focuses on microsurgical and lymphatic reconstruction, surgical outcomes, translational biomarkers, and recovery following cancer treatment. Her work has included lymphatic surgery and imaging, cytokine and biomarker profiling, and multidisciplinary approaches to complex oncologic reconstruction. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has participated in collaborative clinical and translational research programs.
At AVÑо¿Ëù, Dr. Liu is working to expand access to comprehensive lymphedema care and advanced reconstruction for patients affected by breast cancer, head and neck cancer, and other malignancies. Her academic interests center on improving reconstructive outcomes, reducing the long-term effects of cancer treatment, and advancing innovative microsurgical and lymphatic techniques.
